What is this service?

The new MICHR Predoctoral T32 training program is an experiential research training program that provides translational science training. Students will learn the fundamentals of research methods through an individualized, mentored research project, and team-based learning experiences.

The program provides two years of support for pre-doctoral students in health-related programs OR one year of support for students in their 3rd year of a health-related professional degree program. The curriculum includes didactic courses, seminar courses, and a research immersion., some of which can be completed remotely. The program provides stipend, tuition, and research expense support. Ideal candidates are students beginning their PhD programs or students in the third year of a professional health degree program.

  • Health Professional Students take a year away from their main program to complete four (4) graduate level research courses AND complete a translational research project

  • PhD Students will integrate a series of courses into their program and complete them over the span of 2-3 years

T32 program includes:

  • stipend, $16,000 tuition support per academic year, and support for research expenses

  • a translational research practicum

  • didactic course work in translational science, research ethics, and translational science teamwork

  • attendance at MICHR career development seminars

  • the presentation of research through national events

  • career development and mentoring training

  • personalized support to connect with translational science resources

Who can use this service?

Eligibility:

  • Individuals in the first three years of a PhD program or 3rd year health professional degree students interested in a year-out research experience

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident

  • Can be from any school, college, or U-M campus (Ann Arbor, Flint, Dearborn)

  • Students may not receive additional federal funding while they participate in this program

When should I contact MICHR about this service?

  • CV/Resume

  • An Academic Statement that include your research objectives and goals (650 words or less)

  • A Personal Statement (tell us how you got where you are today)

  • A letter of support from your proposed mentor (include this in your PDF)

  • A Biosketch from your proposed mentor

  • One (1) additional letter of reference

  • A Letter of Release from your home school / Acknowledgment Letter from your program chair
