MICHR's Commitment to Anti-racism & Diversity

June 17, 2020

Over the past weeks, we all have been affected by the senseless killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and Rayshard Brooks, only the most recent examples of police brutality and other violence against black people. There are strong feelings of pain, anger, frustration, and disappointment that many in MICHR and the community are feeling due to the systemic and structural racism, health disparities, and inequities present in every facet of society in our country and beyond.

At MICHR, we are deeply committed to supporting and promoting a diverse culture of equity and inclusion.

We work to foster a supportive environment focused on listening, learning, and supporting our colleagues and community in order to promote a safe and brave space to fulfill our mission to enable and enhance clinical and translational research.

MICHR stands against structural and individual racism towards the black community, prejudice against all marginalized populations, and violence against all. We are taking this time to do the work behind the scenes to help make a difference within our organization and throughout our community. We are committed to supporting the fight for racial equity and justice, today, and always.

MICHR is committed to being actively anti-racist by taking a stand against racism and bigotry. We pledge to hold ourselves accountable in our business and personal interactions.

Each of us has an essential role to play in the fight for an anti-racist society. We must stand united, supporting one another and recognizing that this touches each of us, uniquely and collectively. We encourage you to educate yourself and find ways to take action where you are. If you don’t know where to start, please join us in upcoming dialogues and events across the university and beyond. Stay tuned for additional action from us and ways we will continue to move forward.

We are stronger together.
