Improve Your Mentoring Skills at 2022 MICHR Mentoring Academy

  • Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR) 1600 Huron Parkway, Building 400 Ann Arbor, MI 48109 (map)

Do you want to develop and hone your mentoring skills? Do you have a mentor training requirement you need to fulfill? The 2022 MICHR Mentoring Academy curriculum is based on the widely used Mentor Training for Clinical and Translational Researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) and satisfies the new NIGMS guidelines regarding the preparation of mentors involved in training grants.

Each 2-hour session is designed to develop and hone mentoring skills for senior postdocs and faculty in clinical and translational research.  Participants in the sessions will learn how to better coach and counsel other less-experienced mentors, as well as enhance their own interpersonal skills for mutually beneficial mentor-mentee interactions.  Participants will also address challenges facing faculty mentors via case studies, group discussions, and role-plays.

Session topics are: Maintaining Effective Communication, Aligning Expectations, Addressing Equity and Inclusion, Fostering Independence, and Promoting Professional Development.

For University of Michigan participants, there is a $50 fee for each session that will be fully refunded if the participant attends the session. Shortcode is required at registration.  For non-University of Michigan participants, there is a non-refundable $65 fee for each session, payable by credit card.
